History & Founding
Earthmover Credit Union was established on August 15, 1958 to fulfill the financial needs of Aurora Caterpillar plant employees. Like many credit unions, Earthmover was originally formed to serve the financial needs of a specific employee group. Now, Earthmover membership is open to anyone who lives or works in the area.
As a credit union, we are owned and operated by our members. This means that excess earnings are returned to our members in the form of higher dividends, lower loan rates or reduced fees. We are a community-minded mission-driven organization that prioritizes its members. Read more about how credit unions are run here.
Earthmover Today
Earthmover now has over 31,000 valued members and while much has changed over the years, our commitment to providing the very best has not. With $456 million in assets, Earthmover is a secure and successful financial institution. We pride ourselves on offering the latest financial products, services and technology. We operate five branches, a student-run branch and an administrative office in northeast Illinois.
The Team
We have an amazing team of individuals who advocate for our members; many have been with the credit union for decades. President/CEO Janel Cabadas has been a committed part of Earthmover for over 20 years, while Executive Vice President of Finance Noreen Wilkerson has been with Earthmover for 37 years. Retired President/CEO Kelly McDonough was inducted into the Credit Union House Hall of Fame for her significant contributions to the credit union industry. We pride ourselves on fostering the very best talent to help our members.
Earthmover's Financial Health is Strong
Your deposits are secure at Earthmover. We take great pride in providing our members with exceptional service. We take great care to ensure the continued fiscal health of our credit union so that we can be here when members need us most. We are pleased that our conservative management has helped us to avoid some of the issues facing other financial institutions. We sincerely appreciate the decision you have made to place your business and your trust in Earthmover Credit Union.
Each deposit account at Earthmover is insured up to $250,000 by American Share Insurance (ASI), which is America's largest private deposit insurer. Excess Share Insurance Corporation provides up to an additional $750,000 of insurance per account. This means a total of $1 million is insured per account.
ASI is selective as to who it insures. Not all credit unions that apply for coverage are accepted due to ASI's strict underwriting standards. No member has ever lost a penny in an ASI insured credit union. ASI is owned by credit unions and only insures credit unions. Currently over 1.25 million individual consumers belong to credit unions insured by ASI. The ASI insurance fund provides your credit union with a strong, high-quality program that can sustain regardless of changes in economic conditions – a program that members can trust and rely upon.

Partnership with Oswego High School
We are proud of our student-run branch, Panther Credit Union, at Oswego High School. Students operate this branch under the direction of their teacher and Earthmover coordinator. Founded in 1996, Panther Credit Union offers financial services to Oswego High School students and faculty. Plus, Panther Credit Union members are Earthmover members and have full access to all of the credit union’s services.
Giving Back
Giving back is an essential part of the credit union movement and that is no different at Earthmover. Our charity branch, Earthgivers, fundraises throughout the year for community members who need important expenses covered during a difficult time, like an injury or illness.
We also allocate monies for local non-profit organizations with our Community Giveback program. In 2025, we donated $40,000 to over 30 local non-profits, including the Marie Wilkinson Food Pantry, Forget Me Not Animal Shelter, CASA Kane County, Mutual Ground, the Kendall County Community Food Pantry and the Aurora Public Library Foundation. We are active in our community, attending local Chamber and business events, while also hosting our own Shred Events, BBQ fundraisers, blood drives and financial workshops.
